I am a retired nurse who enjoys gardening immensely. I live on the island of Martha’s Vineyard of Massachusetts. My zone 6 gives me a wide variety of perennials to grow but there is a large population of deer and wild turkeys to deal with. I have found that the deer eat most everything but a very few perennials.

Your story is as wonderful as the flowers. Bearded iris and lupine are my favorite flowers and yours are stunning.

Re: High Summer in Alice’s Garden
Fabulous gardens! I love the vignettes and colors and many textures. I use begonias for pops of color also. They are deer and bug resistant and over winter easily in a cold basement. They may look dead in the spring but ‘spring’ back quickly and are ‘free’ plants. Happy gardening everyone.

Re: Late October in Carla’s Garden
I always love seeing Carla’s garden. I am astounded she has so many plants still blooming. Here on the coast of Massachusetts I have very few blooms. Looking at GPOD is my morning highlight.

Re: Cacti and Succulent Gardening in Connecticut
All of your plants are so unique and intriguing! Traveling with plants puts a whole new spin on caring for plants. I live in a very small space and share your desire to be surrounded by plants, sometimes to the annoyance of my husband!
